A BRIEF BIO
I’m Jay Foster Savage. I grew up in New Mexico and I’ve also lived in Oklahoma, Haiti and spent some time in Russia. The mountains, sunrises, sunsets, and cactus flowers of the southwest are a big influence on my art. The retablos of the southwest have inspired my religious icons, as well as the churches in Russia, and my Celtic heritage. If I were to choose the artists whose styles and works most influenced my own they would be Matisse, Van Gogh, Cézanne, O’Keeffe, Masson, Kandinsky, Pollock, and fellow New Mexico artist Sally Quillin. Many of the artists I admire did not set out to be trendsetters, it just happened as they went about creating their works. That is what I'd like for my own art.

I have been involved in fine art for over 20 years, this includes gallery showings, art fairs, and solo exhibits, participating in the Renaissance Faire and the Franciscan Festival of the Arts, in Las Cruces, NM, showing and selling my mixed media collage work. My gallery showings include the West End Art Depot, in Las Cruces, NM, and the Rokoko Gallery, in Mesilla, NM. My solo exhibits include Nabe’s Coffee Shop, Oasis 7 Tattoo, Mas Art and the Quillin-Stephens Studio & Gallery.
Most of my art now is combination of digital photography and digital illustration. My digital art can be seen on permanent display at the Quillin-Stephens Gallery 317 N. Main St. (behind Coas Books) downtown Las Cruces, NM.
